Building Protection

PD Devices Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) are designed to limit transient overvoltages of atmospheric origin and divert current waves to earth, so as to limit the amplitude of this overvoltage to a value that is not hazardous for the electrical installation, electric switchgear and controlgear.

We offer many different Surge Protection Devices for the building industry;

Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, All Mode Protection, Surge Filters and Equipotential Bonding SPDs

SPD eliminates overvoltages in common mode, between phase and neutral or earth; in differential mode, between phase and neutral.

In the event of an overvoltage exceeding the operating threshold, the SPD conducts the energy to earth, in common mode; distributes the energy to the other live conductors, in differential mode.

The Type 1 Surge Protection Device is recommended in the specific case of service-sector and industrial buildings, protected by a lightning protection system or a meshed cage. It protects electrical installations against direct lightning strikes / strokes. It can discharge the back-current from lightning spreading from the earth conductor to the network conductors. Type 1 SPD is characterized by a 10/350 µs current wave. ..
The Type 2 Surge Protection Devices are the main protection system for all low voltage electrical installations. Installed in each electrical switchboard, it prevents the spread of any overvoltages in the electrical installations and protects the loads. Type 2 SPD is characterized by an 8/20 µs current wave. ..
These Type 3 Surge Protection Devices have a low discharge capacity. They must therefore mandatorily be installed as a supplement to Type 2 Surge Protection Devices and in the vicinity of sensitive loads. Type 3 SPD is characterized by a combination of voltage waves (1.2/50μs) & current waves (8/20μs). ..
The PD Devices EMI Surge Protected Filters are designed to combat Electro-magnetic Interference,  so lets explain what is Electro-magnetic Interference (EMI)? Electro-magnetic Interference also called Radio-Frequency Interference (RFI) when in the radio frequency spectrum, it is a disturbance generated by an external source that affects an electrical circuit by electromagnetic induction, electrostatic coupling, or conduction. The disturbance could degrade the performance of a circuit or even stop it from functioning completely. In the case of a data path, these effects can range from an increase in error rate to the total loss of all the data. Both man-made and natural sources generate changing electrical currents ..
What is Equipotential bonding? Equipotential bonding involves electrically connecting metal work so that it is at the same voltage everywhere. Equipotential bonding is done from where the distribution wiring enters the building to incoming water and gas services. It is also done in bathrooms where all exposed metal that leaves the bathroom including metal pipes and the earths of electrical circuits must be bonded together to ensure that they are always at the same potential. ..
